The Studio
An independent games publisher creating distinctive games about command, uncertainty and consequence.
History can look inevitable once the outcome is known. Games can restore the uncertainty people faced at the time: limited information, competing priorities and consequences they could not fully predict.
Fieldcraft Games is an independent publisher founded by Matt Southgate. The studio develops and publishes its own catalogue and offers publishing services to other developers. Read the fuller story in Meet the founder: a conversation with Matt.
Yes. We offer transparent, publicly priced packages: a £495 Strategy Session, a £4,995 Launch package and ongoing Growth support, plus a bespoke Publishing partnership by application. There is never a revenue share, and developers stay in control of their games throughout. See the Publishing page for full details.
The Games
Field of Command is the headline game in active development. Convoy Duty is in free preview on the web ahead of a full release on Steam. Sovereign Tides is on a development pause while Field of Command has priority, with a playable demo the next goal when work resumes.
A World War II manoeuvre RTS built around the growing responsibilities of command, beginning with the BEF in France in 1940 and expanding across the War in the West. The v0.2.2 preview is free to play in your browser now.
A compact arcade roguelike about escorting merchant convoys through the Battle of the Atlantic. You hunt U-boats, screen vulnerable ships and try to bring as much tonnage home as possible. Play it free in your browser, no account or download required.
Field of Command has development priority for now. Sovereign Tides remains a Fieldcraft project, and a playable demo is the next goal when work on it resumes. There is no release date to promise yet.
History is the working foundation rather than decoration. Formations, equipment, geography and operational problems matter, while the design still makes room for readable systems, uncertainty and player agency.
Playing & Tech
Just a browser. Convoy Duty runs on modest hardware, including phones and tablets. Field of Command is more demanding and works best in a current desktop browser with hardware acceleration enabled.
Steam is part of the planned path for Field of Command, from the current browser preview to a demo and then Early Access. Console and mobile versions are not currently announced. Dates will only be given when they are supportable.
Community & Feedback
Play Convoy Duty, try the Field of Command preview, tell a friend, and join the Discord. Word of mouth is everything for independent games.
Read the Fieldcraft blog for major announcements, use Discord for day-to-day discussion, and follow YouTube for longer development updates.
Please do. The Discord has dedicated channels for both, and playtests are organised there when a build is ready. Reproduction steps and screenshots are especially useful, but every report helps.
